readings from Sunday February 13 at 11:30

6th SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME (A)

From the Book of Sirach wise 15, 15-20

If you wish, you can observe the commandments, it depends on your choice to remain faithful . The Lord has set before you fire and water: stretch out his hand to what you prefer. Life and death are offered to men, either given to them by their choice. For the wisdom of the Lord is great, he is almighty and he sees everything. His eyes are those who fear him, he knows all the actions of men. He has not commanded anyone to be wicked, he has allowed anyone to sin.

In the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians ux 2, 1-10

And I, brethren, when I went home, not with lofty words or wisdom that I went to announce the testimony of God. Because I did not feel good to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Christ crucified. Myself, I was with you in a state of weakness, fear and much trembling and my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom but in demonstration of Spirit and power, that your faith is not based the wisdom of men but in the power of God. It's good that we speak wisdom among the perfect, but not a wisdom of this world nor that world leaders committed to abolition. What we're talking, instead, is a wisdom of God, mysterious, hidden place, that which, before the ages, God has pre-destined for our glory, which none of the princes of this world has known - because if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory - but, as it is written, [we announce] what no eye has seen and no ear has heard, which is not entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love him. For to us God has revealed through the Spirit for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO SAINT MATTHEW 5, 13-37

On the mountain, Jesus told his disciples: "Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets: I came not to abolish but to fulfill. Verily I say unto you, until heaven and earth pass, not one iota, not one tittle of the law will not pass until all is accomplished. Whoever therefore breaks one of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does will practice and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, unless your righteousness does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was said by them of old Thou shalt not commit murder, one who commits murder shall be liable to trial. But I say unto you, Whosoever is angry against his brother shall be liable to trial. And whoever says to his brother, Raca! will be amenable to the Sanhedrin. Whoever says' Fool! will be liable to the hell fire . Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave there thy gift before the altar and go first be reconciled to your brother, then come and offer your offering. Arrange yourself quickly with your adversary while you are still on the road with him, lest the adversary deliver thee to the judge, the guard, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt not come out thence till thou hast paid the last penny. You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery. But I say unto you, whoever looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. Because it expedient that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body be cast into hell. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you, for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and that thy whole body should be cast into hell. It has been said, Whoever divorces his wife gives him a letter of divorce. But I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to commit adultery in, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. You still heard it was said by them of old Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but not acquit you to the Lord your oaths. But I tell you, do not swear, either by heaven, because it is God's throne, nor by the earth because it is his footstool, nor by Jerusalem because the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, because thou canst not make one white or black hair. Let your yes be yes and your no, no, what these cometh of evil. "
